CSA: Community Supported Agriculture
A membership in a CSA is a way for you to support small farms and their communities! In a CSA, a group of people come together (community members) to directly support their farmer by purchasing a share of fresh, seasonal produce. By paying a one-time, upfront membership fee, the customer is essentially purchasing a share of the season’s crop straight from the farmer. This means the money stays between the farmer and customer, with no middleman necessary. Shares of the crop, in our case a stunning variety of unique and rare heirloom potatoes, are shipped straight from the farm to the customer or offered at specific locations for customer pick-up each month. Think of it like a potato subscription box - each month you receive a different box filled with delicious, fresh potatoes.
Benefits of Being a CSA Member
- Receive fresh produce directly from the farmer: This ensures fresher, better tasting food when compared to what has been sitting on the grocery store shelves.
- Support local, beyond-organic, biodynamic agriculture: It is no secret that conventional, chemical-laden agriculture is taking a toll of the health of America's farmlands and citizens. Purchasing from a CSA rooted in biodynamic principles means your produce is grown with the intention to promote health for both the soil and the consumer and has never been sprayed with chemicals. That is the kind of farming that needs your support today.
- Dependable stream of fresh produce for the customer: In a CSA, the customer typically makes one large purchase at the beginning of the growing season. In return, they receive periodic installments of fresh produce as it is harvested. No more dealing with inferior produce at the grocery store or worrying about the farmers market running out of the item(s) before you get there.
- Dependable stream of income for the farmer: By purchasing the produce ahead of the harvest time, the customer helps ensure the farmer can use his/her resources wisely to tend to their crops and harvest at the peak of freshness, knowing they already have customers who have purchased, and are looking forward to enjoying, their crop.
