One of the fastest ways to usher in spring is to start seeds inside the warmth of your home. It's the first part of an intimate interaction that occurs between human and food. As you start the seeds for the garden of your Heart's Pasture, you should be confident that this relationship that you've developed at the early stages of the process naturally encodes it to grow into food for you and your family. And grow it will, as long as you care for it the right way.
The feeling of spring is upon us in Northern Michigan. Even though there is still a lot of snow on the ground, new beginnings, renewal, and growth fill our spirits and awaken us from our winter slumber.
I slightly modified this fantastic Amish recipe that I came across years ago. It is the only brownie recipe I make now.
This recipe has saved me more times than I can count from the hopeful question often posed near dinnertime: "What's for dessert?" When I answer "ice cream" I get a smile and a cheer from my 4-year-old daughter (and husband).
Our small northern Michigan family farm has gotten somewhat of a makeover the last couple of months. The changes haven't been outside, where the snow covers the ground at this time of year; they have been right here, made in the comfort of our home, on our website.
